Amplitude Modulation and Frequency Modulation used to come standard in 90% of the automobiles sold. AKA…. the AM/FM radio. The earliest experimental AM transmissions began in the early 1900s. However, widespread AM broadcasting was not established until the 1920s, following the development of vacuum tube receivers and transmitters. AM radio remained the dominant method of broadcasting for the next 30 years, a period called the “Golden Age of Radio“, until television broadcasting became widespread in the 1950s and received much of the programming previously carried by radio. Later, AM radio’s audiences declined greatly due to competition from FM (frequency modulation) radio, Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB), satellite radio, HD (digital) radio, Internet radio, music streaming services, and podcasting.
FM is losing in a parallel bandwagon. With the advent of the “NET” and all-things-digital, we find ourselves at a crossroad of sorts. As we advance with AI technology there are many options opening up on the horizon. But are they dangerous?
Try selling advertising on radio? It has come to the point in time where the customers seek you out. A cold sales call does not work in this generation. Which brings me to the point that many things of the past could almost be put out to pasture.
….but save the old men in the country.
