Today marks 45 years without a living Elvis, though his presence remains strong through tribute artists. The year is 1977, he leaves behind a nine year old daughter, Lisa Marie daughter in Graceland, to carry on his linage. There is something about losing a parent at a young age like Lisa, that I can relate to. My own mother passed away from a car accident in April of ’77 when I was only fourteen. His death came as a double whammy for me because, Elvis was my mom’s favorite singer, followed by Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn.
Life does not give us a playbook when it comes to grief. We all have our own ways that we can work through. There is no time limit, but I know from experience the longer one stays down, THE LONGER YOU STAY down. What does that mean? It simply means, we must move forward to the next day. The past is gone. For Elvis? He grew larger for he was greatly blessed and personally, I think he knew that.
His music lives and there is a little him in all of us.
